People’s confidence on present Govt. has not diminished – President

President Maithripala Sirisena said that even though numerous blames, accusations and criticisms were leveled against the Government and the President, the confidence placed in the present Government by the public as well as electing him as the President of this country has not been changed.


In that context, the President emphasized that as a Government it will fulfill its responsibilities to take forward the country. He made these remarks participating at the SLFP membership promotion campaign held in Panadura, on Saturday (26th Nov.).


It is the responsibility of all the Ministers and MPs, who represent the SLFP, to fulfill their respective duties with the aim of forming a SLFP Government in the future while building the SLFP as a strong political party which ensures the democracy, the President said.


The President also said that the politicians should be free from fraud and corruption and further said that a person who loves the motherland and its people and who possess the pure intention of developing the country as a one country one nation, will never use the public funds and resources for their own benefit.


President Sirisena said that the policy of the SLFP is to create a just society for all citizens while resolving public issues as well as providing necessary facilities for them. He also said that in parallel to the national program of eliminating poverty from the country to be launched next year, will take steps to look into the welfare of the rural communities in all the nine provinces as well as to provide necessary economic reliefs to them.        


President Sirisena also presented membership cards for the new SLFP members at the ceremony.


SLFP General Secretary, Duminda Disanayake, General Secretary of the UPFA, Mahinda Amaraweera, SLFP District leader of the Kalutara electorate, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, State Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, the Governor of the Northern Province, Reginold Cooray, and SLFP Ministers and MPs who represents Kalutara district also participated.
