JVP calls for more urgent action against ‘theives’

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has expressed concern over delays in meting out punishment, even when rogues and the manner of their thievery, have been exposed.

Speaking in Colombo today, JVP Politburo Member Wasantha Samarasinghe said that the government is not doing anything after exposing “the manner of the theft, the people involved in the theft and the amount stolen ”

“This is what the government is doing. This is what Ranil Wickremesinghe is doing “, he and further added that they know how the theft was carried out in the Central Bank bond scam and persons in the government including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and several Ministers were involved in it, he alleged

He further added that the Governor of the Central Bank, his son-in-law, the Chairman of the Tender Board P. Samarasiri and the Tender Board itself, were involved in the theft and the money stolen through this move, amounting to Rs. 20 Billion is with Perpetual Treasuries and the loss to the Central Bank was Rs.55 Billion.

“Money is being laundered now”, he said

Samarasinghe explained that ‘they’ have purchased 10 percent of NDB Bank and they are starting up a newspaper company and a TV channel – while money is being allocated for six newspapers, a TV channel and a radio station and an Arrack company is being built in Nilaweli.

He went on to note that if the current Central Bank Governor wishes to uphold his integrity and respect, he must start enforcing decisions to stop such theft. He also stated that the current Chairman of the Tender Board is the same P. Samarasiri who was involved in this large scale fraud.
