Based on the instructions of the Minister of Health, a three-member committee has been appointed to probe the deaths of four patients who died after undergoing angiogram tests at the cardiac unit of the National Hospital.
One of the patients who passed away following the angiogram is A.M. Somaratne. He was admitted to the Cardiac Unit of the National Hospital on November 18.
Tests revealed that there had been three blood clots in his heart.
“.. he was awake and in good spirits when I visited him in the afternoon. He even asked me to bring hoppers for breakfast ..”, said the patient’s wife.
However, the cause of the death has been cited as an issue that occurred with this left lung.
Specialist Dr. Lakshmi Somathunga, the chairperson of the committee appointed to probe these deaths, has already called for the dye being used in the angiogram test to be replaced.
