The president attended the 47th summit of the Public Service United Nurses Union on Wednesday, November 16.
A special token of appreciation was presented to President Maithripala Sirisena, during the event, which was organised by a number of Trade Unions and the chairman of Public Service United Nurses Union, Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda thero.
The president speaking during the event said that it is the government’s policy to provide freedom and trade union rights, to the best of its ability.
The president went on to say:
When we continue to provide such freedoms, some use this in a humane manner but some end up misusing it. These freedoms and rights are being granted to the country and the intelligent people of this country. However utilising these freedoms to further political and racist ideologies and to create tension will not benefit the future of this nation…”
