Fourteen-year-old who died of cancer wins right to be cryogenically frozen

A fourteen year old British girl who died of cancer won the right to be cryogenically frozen in US so that she might be revived in the future when a cure for her cancer has been found.

Sources say, she is the first child in the UK. to have her body preserved in this way.

The British girl suffered from a rare type of cancer and expressed a hope to be brought back to life and cured in the future.

She wrote: “I have been asked to explain why I want this unusual thing done. I’m only 14 years old and I don’t want to die, but I know I am going to. I think being cryo-preserved gives me a chance to be cured and woken up, even in hundreds of years’ time. I don’t want to be buried underground.

“I want to live and live longer and I think that in the future they might find a cure for my cancer and wake me up. I want to have this chance. This is my wish.”

What is cryogenic preservation?
In simple, this process is the freezing of a deceased person with the hope of resuscitation in the future and the hope for terminally ill patients is that they can be resuscitated when a cure has been found.

After the patient dies, this process needs to begin as soon as possible to stop brain cells dying through lack of oxygen.

Cryogenic preservation was initially developed in the 1960s.

Only Russia and the U.S. have cryogenic preservation labs, where the procedure is undertaken and the cost can vary from anywhere between $28,000 and $200,000.
