Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera, made a request in Parliament on Tuesday, November 22, to act in a manner which does not harm the ethnic harmony of the country.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera said:
Bankrupt politicians are conspiring today to disrupt the good relations we have with the international community by making distorted statements. And that these very conspirators are attempting to create tensions in the country between the Muslim and the Sinhalese communities, who have been living in coexistence for thousands of years.
“We saw recently an MP from your group taking the leadership in destroying the name board of a road called Mosque Road in Kandy, giving a dangerous message that Muslims do not have the right to live in this country”, he said.
“Moreover a prominent member of MP Namal Rajapaksa’s Nil Balakaya has been arrested for creating an anti-Muslim campaign”, he added.
He went on to note that a group of Muslim extremists have also been arrested. MP Samaraweera called on the public to act in a way which does not compromise the ethnic unity which has been protected and safeguarded in this country thus far.
