Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) yesterday introduced the tab computer based ‘Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing method’ (CAPI) for its surveys at Water’s Edge, Battaramulla under the patronage of the Secretary to the Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Wasantha Deshapriya.
The system, which enables to enter data to the computer at the time of data collection, has been established by the DCS in collaboration with Republic of Korea under the ‘KOSTAT’ project. The ‘KOSTAT’ is a three-year long project implemented by the DCS during the period of 2014-2016 with the financial assistance of Korean Government, and the technical assistance from National Statistics Office of Korea.
According to the Director General of DCS, Dr. A.J. Satharasinghe, the CAPI method would enable further improving the quality and timeliness of official statistics compiled by the Department.
From 2017 onwards, it has been arranged to conduct the Sri Lanka Labor Force survey using CAPI method.
Ambassador Won-sam Chang, and the Director General, Statistics Korea, Cho Chang Sang participated the occasion.
