Continuous rain lashes Colombo; DMC issues warning to residents in Ratnapura, Galle, Matara

Our correspondents say the inclement weather has affected several parts of the country.The Disaster Management Centre has urged the public in the mountainous areas of the Ratnapura, Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts to remain vigilant of the possibility of landslides, rock falls, subsidence and cut-slope failure.

Several areas of the Colombo District have been experiencing a continuous rainfall since morning.The Galle – Akuressa, Galle – Dikkumbura and Galle – Imaduwa roads in the Galle District were inundated due to the heavy showers that were experienced.

According to our correspondents, fishermen in Galle, Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa and Balapitiya refrained from setting out to sea today, Sunday, November 6, due to rough seas.

Several low lying areas in the Matara District were also inundated owing the to persisting rain.Low-lying areas in the Gampaha area were also under water.
