Public warned as gate-keepers at unprotected railway crossings commence strike

Rail gatekeepers at unprotected level crossings have commenced a trade union action once again.

Chairman of the Unprotected Railway Crossing Gatekeepers Association, J.A.C. Premalal said that they were forced to engage in a trade union action as the authorities failed to fulfill their promises to increase salaries.

Premalal said that 2064 gatekeepers stationed at 688 unprotected railway crossings around the country will participate in the strike action.

Meanwhile, the Railway Control Room warns the public to exercise caution at unprotected level crossings due to the strike action.
