President instructs to find possibility of using sea sand in building construction

President Maithripala Sirisena instructed the relevant officials to take necessary steps to use sea sand in constructing government buildings in the future, after conducting further analysis regarding the technology of using sea sand in building construction work.

The attention has been drawn regarding this initiative as one of the steps that Government has taken to protect natural resources.

 

The President has given this instruction during a discussion held at the President's Official Residence, on Oct 18, regarding the environmental issues prevailing in the Trincomalee District.

 

The attention of the President was also drawn to introducing the concept of using environmental friendly technologies for construction work instead of using natural resources like wood.

 

During the meeting, issues related to the destruction of forests, issues related to the wildlife, sand mining, waste disposal issues, land reclamation pertaining to the district was discussed in detail.

 

President Sirisena further instructed the officials to work with relevant Ministries to solve these issues.

 

Secretary to the President, P.B. Abeykoon and Secretary to the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment Udaya R. Seneviratne also participated.
